Jim Beam Clubs | Palomar| San Diego
[Prepared September 11, 2001].
“The Palomar Jim Beam Club was Founded on September 29, 1976 with 14 Charter Members. Out of the fourteen charter members 4 are deceased, eight have gone their separate ways leaving only two original remaining: Dick & Marge Worters. During the years we have had many beamers that have helped the club along the way filling in for secretary, Treasurer, board members and editor.
Our presidents have come & gone throught the years as other interest have taken over their lifestyle so let me refresh everyone’s memory on our past presidents since the beginning:
1976 -1978 Harry Sachs [president & founder of the Palomar Club].
1979 – 1980 Dick Worters
1981 Jeannette Goodson
1982 Don Sanderson
1983 – 1984 Marge Worters
1985 – 1986 Liz Eason
1987 – 1988 Marge Jones
1989 – 1991 Liz Eason
1992 – 1995 Marge Jones
1996 – 1999 Liz Eason
2000 – 2001 Dick Worters
The Palomar Jim Beam Club has been a very active club with membership at one time totaling almost one hundred members. In our early years our charity was “Casa De Amparo” (home for abused Children) which we supported for approximately eleven years, raising money from our fish fries, one of a kind sales, monthly meetings and donated approximately $20.000 over the years to this worthwhile charity. One period of time 918860 record indicate that we sold 353 tickets for the fish fry which is more people then we presently get at our district meetings.
At one of our fish fries there were 17 Jim Beam Clubs represented :
District #1.
Golden Gate
Blossom Valley
Bay Area Vagabonds
Camellia City
Mission Tesore
San Joaquin
Five Cities
A-OK Beamers
Highland Toasters
Queen Mary
Orange County
Beaming Rebel Foxes
Mission Bells
San Diego Club
Golden Bears
South Bay Beamers
Palomar
Question: How many of these Jim Beam Clubs are active as of today?
Answer: Only a total of seven Beamer Clubs [2001].
In 1990 Sam Lopen was instrumental in persuading the board of the Palomar Jim Beam Club to change our charity to the “Shriners Transportation Fund” and as of this date we have donated $23.730 to the Shriners and hopefully we will raise another $2,000 this year. This means that combined contributions total $45.730 over the past twenty five years. If you visit the Masonic Lodge in San Diego there is a plaque in bronze honoring our clubs contributions.
Other accomplishments of the Palomar Jim Beam Club is that we hosted the District #1 meeting in San Diego {1980]. Our annual christmas social has always been well attended as most everything is free except for the raffles. We have held several Jim Beam Bottle Shows to promote membership within the Palomar Club. We have supported the International Jim Beam Club on most every project that they initiated.
We also had several of our members receive “Beamer of the Year” awards in the district and two members who have won the “Dedication & Achievement Awards.” One member is also a member of the Golden Foxes Fraternity.
It was great going back on some of the records and reviewing many of our members and the work theu have done for the Palomar Jim Beam Club.We have come a long way and still encourage everyone to participate and attend the district meetings and International Jim Beam Conventions. I have met a lot of really nice people which is why I continue to attend as many functions as possible.
I want to thank all of our current workers for the Palomar Jim Beam Club: Liz Eason, Marge & Paul Jones, Jon & Evelyn Grace, Tony Monde, Millie Holmes, Agnes Youngerman, Lu Bergeron, Audie Mustain & Sam Lopez. It has been a great two years with their support.”
